Slips, Trips, and Falls

In Ontario, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) outlines several measures to prevent slips, trips, and falls in the workplace.

Here are some key safety measures:

Housekeeping

Ensure that floors are kept clean and dry. Spills should be cleaned up immediately, and clutter should be removed from walkways.

Flooring

Use slip-resistant flooring materials, especially in areas prone to getting wet.

Lighting

Adequate lighting should be provided in all areas to ensure visibility and reduce the risk of tripping2. Stairways and Handrails: Install handrails on both sides of stairways and ensure that stairs are well-maintained2

Signage

Use warning signs to alert workers to potential hazards, such as wet floors or uneven surfaces1.

Footwear

Encourage or require the use of appropriate footwear that provides good traction1.

Training

Provide training to employees on how to recognize and avoid slip, trip, and fall hazards.

These measures are designed to create a safer work environment and reduce the risk of injuries related to slips, trips, and falls.
